Then you replace the gasket and check ball and check it for leakage. This is all that will clean the cups from the carbon inside. To do injectors you tear down and put in a ultra/sonit cleaner and clean. Or you could spend about 60.00 per cylinder for recons from Cummins. You can get a good used test stand for 200,000 or so and then you will need for it to be calibrated and certified. Plungers, plunger seats, orifices,springs and you need a test stand to flow them. Other than the o-rings on the outside, are there any specific wear parts I should look at and/or replace? I came across a used set of the exact right set of injectors for my cpl, which I am disassembling and cleaning. I'm going to bite the bullet and order them. I guess you only have to tell me 4 times to get the right injectors. If you want to take the top stop nut off and then set them on the outer base then that would be the only way they could work.The top stop nut is on there and has a built in setting to match the lift of the cam and then all you have to set with the topstop injector after installing is the taking out of the slack in the push rod movement to cam. If you have the time it could be tryed.But i know the lift is differnt and the top stop who not be set the same so that is one reason they will not work. I never did try to look part #s up on the two but learn long time ago not to mismatch on parts that i dont know about but try to stay with what has been proven. But the difference i who think is different parts inside of the injector like barrel and plunger. If you keep asking your going to find some one that has done it and they are going to tell you its ok. The lift on the cams shaft are different. Why can't you run top stop injectors in a small cam? Some #s do supsend into a later # so remenber that. The 290 was built in a small cam as well as a big cam.Get your cpl on your engine and find what injector # goes in it and then dont settle for any other #. Therefore I cannot use them in my small cam? They are cheap, and so am I.
When I look up the part number, they show for big cam. As far as I could tell, if you have ptd injectors, you could replace them with top stop injectors if you took a nut off the top? Also, big cam injectors cannot be ran in a small cam because they aren't rated the same? Or can they? A guy is selling injectors for a 290 on the bay.
